On September 29, 2017, Dr. Jia Xiuping was invited to give an academic report titled On remote sensing spatial resolution: from subpixels to superpixels at the A512, School of Environment Science and Spatial Informatics. Dr. Jia works at the University of New South Wales, Canberra, and her main research interests include remote sensing image processing and classification, hyperspectral data analysis and feature extraction. In addition, she is the editor or associate editor of several international journals, including IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing and IEEE Journal of Selected Topicsin Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing. She has published 170 papers, among them, more than 60 SCI papers.

The report was presided by Professor Tan Kun, who is the deputy director of the NASG Key Laboratory of Land Environment and Disaster Monitoring. At first, he introduced some basic conditions about Dr. Xiuping Jia, and then extended a warm welcome to her on behalf of the teachers and students.

Dr. Xiuping Jia made a report on how remote sensing spatial resolution can be applied from sub-pixel to super-pixel. She explained the concept of the “superpixel”, the ways of solving the problem, the related researches and it’s specific applications. Her report brought a lot of inspirations for the teachers and students.

In the Q & A session, Dr. Xiuping Jia answered the questions raised by the teachers and students in detail.

Generally, this lecture introduced many achievements of scientific research on spatial resolution of remote sensing for the students, and provided theoretical supports and references for everyone who will participate in the following academic researches.
